About Abstract

Abstract is a design workflow platform for teams to version, manage, and collaborate on Sketch files. Since launching in July 2017, over 5,000 design teams across 75 countries have adopted Abstract, including teams from Shopify, Cisco, Intuit, Spotify, Salesforce, Instacart, OpenTable, and more.
At Abstract, we are actively working to build a diverse and inclusive organization. Here, diversity includes age, economic class, educational background, ethnic variance, familial status, gender, gender expression, gender identity, marital status, national origin, religious affiliation, sex, sexual orientation, transgender status, or veteran status.
Abstract is headquartered in San Francisco but many of our teams and roles are remote-first (US-based only at this time). If you have a passion for rolling up your sleeves, building new programs, and have a strong, team-player mentality, we’d love to hear from you!
We are looking for someone to support our Product and Revenue organizations as well as lead and build our Data Science & Analytics team. The goal of the team is to help us better understand our business, product, and customers, and help teams make data-driven decisions wherever possible. You’ll partner with Engineering to build and maintain our data infrastructure, and with Design, Product Management, Marketing, Sales, Finance, and our executive team to inform decision making and analyze results. You’ll be expected to contribute both as an individual and a manager of our Data Analytics Software Engineer at first, with a path to building a larger team over time. You will report into the VP of Business Operations  and act as a partner to the entire company.

What you'll do:

  • Directly manage our Data Analytics Software Engineer, and potentially others over time
  • Build out our data infrastructure and tooling in close partnership with Engineering
  • Develop re-usable systems for analyzing data
  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of ongoing metrics, reports, and tools to generate insights on product performance, business performance, customer behavior
  • Lead the whole company to be data-driven in their analysis and decision-making
  • Help various teams, from Engineering and Product Management to Sales and Marketing, answer questions relating to Abstract's business and customer usage
  • Support ad-hoc requests from executives, and partner with Finance on business forecasting

What you'll bring:

  • 3+ years of management experience, deeply committed to building and developing a diverse and inclusive team and culture
  • A team player mindset: you are equally excited about helping with everything from strategic decision making to small, routine requests
  • An ability to tell the story behind the numbers
  • An ability to prioritize a large volume of requests by using a business-driven lens
  • Strong technical background in computer science, statistics, mathematics, information science, or another quantitative field
  • Substantial expertise in experimental design and analysis, particularly with messy real-world data
  • Fluency in at least one modern language useful for statistics and/or data processing (e.g. Python, R, Scala)
  • Proficiency with relational data modeling and SQL
